Image of Allegro's A4919 Three-Phase ControllerAllegro's A4919 is designed for a wide range of industrial applications including lawn and garden equipment as well as battery-operated power tools. The control inputs to the A4919 provide a simple solution for many motor drive applications controlled by an external microcontroller or DSP. A bootstrap capacitor is used to provide the battery supply voltage required for n-channel external power MOSFETs. The power MOSFETs are protected from cross-conduction by integrated crossover control.

For the A4919 to operate with a reduced gate drive down to 5.5 V, a unique charge pump regulator provides a full (>10 V) gate drive for battery voltages down to 7 V. A4919 also includes an onboard regulator which can be used to supply sensors and microprocessor power. The three-phase bridge allows motors to be driven with any communication scheme defined by an external controller.

Short faults, supply under-voltage, and chip over temperature conditions are indicated by a single open drain fault output. The overtemperature warning is generated if the device's internal temperature rises high enough, and the regulator is immediately shut down and the FAULT flag is set. All device functions other than the regulator remain active. The A4919 has a continuous operating junction temperature of +165°C.
