LT3091-slide5

The LT3091’s current monitor circuit is a pass-through current mirror. As long as the designer supplies it a 2V overhead, it can float negative or positive. Users can float the device as low as the IN pin voltage to as high as 20V above ground. The current monitor is accurate to 8% over line, load, and temperature at about 500mA. One of the beauties of this topology, as shown here, is that users can easily create a positive voltage, ground referenced current monitor on an otherwise entirely negative LDO.
