EN50155-Slide3

Railway rolling stock use a DC power distribution system so that batteries can be used to maintain electrical power in the event of a generator failure. The latest version of EN50155 defines seven different standardized DC voltages, although 110VDC is the most commonly used on trains. The 24V thru 48V is often used on light railways, trams and trolley buses. The new version of the standard therefore adds specifications for 28V and 36V supplies. The standard defines the allowed voltage variation of between 0.7 times nominal and 1.25 times nominal for normal operation, with a dip down to 0.6 times nominal for 1/10th of a second and a surge to 1.4 times nominal for 1 second.
